Amnad Khitapanna

Amnad Khitapanna spent his formative years in England studying piano and music literature along side his main subject- Architecture- at Swansea and Bristol Universities.

Upon his return to Bangkok in 1978, he became involved with the Bangkok Music Society and its stage productions. He founded The Bangkok Chopin Society and its piano competitions , The Bangkok Choral Society in 1984 and subsequently The BMS and AMAS choirs.

To celebrate 200 years of Bangkok in 1982, he staged the full BMS production of ‘The Merry Widow’ at The National Thratre. An orchestra was formed for this unprecedented event ; and this contributed to the formation of The Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. It was through his initiation that resulted in the first visit to Bangkok by The New York Philharmonic Orchestra with Zubin Mehta.

With the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, he was involved in four major Opera Productions. In 2001 he established ‘The Winter Journey’, a Singing Camp at his estate in Loei with instructors from The Ghent Opera. This became an internationally successful event, culminating in a series of masterclasses by Graham Johnson in 2014.

Now in his retirement, Amnad continues to promote gifted young musicians by holding monthly house concerts at his home in Samutprakarn.

His last major production was a specially adapted version of’ La Boheme ‘ at his Chiang Mai home, performed by young singers from Wales, Salzburg as well as Peking.
